Postcards to the Future
Postcards to the Future is an activity that challenges
children to think about the future — not just their own but the future of
the larger world around them. MARC wants to ask children what they think transportation
in our region should look like in 30 years, and to send a "postcard to the
future." Participants are supplied with crayons, markers and pencils, and are
asked to draw and write their ideas for the future on the postcards. Prior to the
art activity, children play transportation charades, and MARC staff members make
a brief, interactive presentation about transportation planning and Transportation
Outlook 2040. The goals of the program are to:
- Educate young people about transportation issues and the regional planning process,
- Reinforce the ethics and responsibility of civic engagement,
- Instill in participants that they have power to shape important decisions about their future, and
- Get participants to think creatively about the future and solving problems.
Download your own postcard (pdf) and send us your drawings and thoughts. We'll post them on this Web page!
