Transportation Outlook 2040
Call for Projects
Developing a set of transportation projects that improve the ways people and goods move around Greater Kansas City is a major part of Transportation Outlook 2040. It helps the region prioritize future investments — based on the vision of providing "a safe, balanced, regional, multimodal transportation system that is coordinated with land-use planning, supports equitable access to opportunities, and protects the environment” — in a way that fits within our estimated financial resources.
In August 2009, MARC conducted a call for regionally significant transportation projects that support the long-range plan’s adopted policy goals and help address challenges we’re facing. Through early September, local jurisdictions and transportation agencies nominated projects to be considered for the plan. Public feedback on the nominations was accepted through Sept. 30. A narrrowed down draft list of recommended projects will be released later this year, offering residents another chance to provide input on long-term transportation priorities for the region.
Funding will not be distributed as a result of this call for projects, but:
- Identifying regional transportation priorities will direct the investment of future federal funds.
- Being listed in the long-range transportation plan helps communicate with the public about projects planned for local communities.
- For some federal programs, only projects included in the long-range transportation plan are eligible for funding.
- For some federal funding programs, projects receive extra consideration if they are included in the long-range transportation plan.
