A Vision for Greater Kansas City
Transportation investments are most effective and supported by people when they are built on a shared idea of what a region aspires to be.
In recent years, citizens and leaders in Greater Kansas City have begun developing a common goal for a more sustainable region — one that balances a healthy environment, a prospering economy and social equity, both now and in the future.
In 2008, the Mid-America Regional Council's Board of Directors officially adopted a vision for Greater Kansas City based on sustainability. Transportation Outlook 2040 lays out broad goals and identifies what role the transportation system should play in achieving the regional vision.
Regional Vision:
Greater Kansas City is a sustainable region that increases the vitality of our society, economy, and environment for current residents and future generations.
Transportation Vision:
A safe, balanced, regional multimodal transportation system that is coordinated with land-use planning, supports equitable access to opportunities, and protects the environment.
