For 50 years, Head Start has led the nation in providing comprehensive early childhood development and education services. Since the summer of 1965, more than 31 million children across the country have benefited from Head Start. These individuals are parents, community leaders, educators, lawyers, athletes, musicians, scientists, professionals and employees in your community. They are your family, friends and neighbors.
Throughout 2015, we collected stories from local families, alumni, staff and community members across the metro whose lives have been impacted by Head Start. On Oct. 10, we shared these stories with the larger community at our 50th anniversary recognition event.
These stories are now part of a portrait gallery that is available for loan to businesses, government agencies, universities and community centers across the region. Please call 816-701-8292 if your company or organization would be interested in hosting some of these stories to share with customers, employees and constituents.

“My wife and I have friends who worked at the Shawnee Mission Head Start. Through them, we learned about the Head Start model. Our son has learning disabilities due to Williams Syndrome. He absolutely loves Head Start and has shown remarkable improvement.”
