Katy Trail

Kansas City Area Connection

Several years ago, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources convened Kansas City area officials to discuss the potential to connect the metro area to the state's Katy Trail. The Katy Trail is an off-road, multi-use trail stretching from St. Charles, Mo. to Clinton, Mo. The trail follows the old Katy Railroad line along the Missouri River for much of its route.

A Kansas City area connection to the Katy Trail is a key component of MARC's efforts to develop a regional system of greenways and multi-use trails. Over an eight-month period, MARC brought together representatives of state and local government agencies, bicycle and environmental groups, trails advocates, business groups and railroad companies to consider possible routes for connecting the trail.
