Funding for emergency services and homeland security programs comes from a variety of sources, including membership fees and state and federal grants. MARC administers a number of grants that support regional preparedness efforts, including:

  • Urban Area Security Initiative Grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (see below).
  • Metropolitan Medical Response System Grants.
  • Missouri Bioterrorism Grant (HRSA).
  • Department of Justice COPS Grant.
  • Missouri Homeland Security Response Teams Funding.

Through 2012, these grants represent more than $87 million allocated to regional homeland security preparedness efforts. Significant investments have been made to increase the region's capability to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to and recover from a broad range of disasters, including acts of terrorism.

From 2003 to 2013, the region received significant federal funding through the Department of Homeland Security's Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program. To learn more about what UASI funds have meant to the region, download the UASI highlights flier.
