Sustainable Plans, Policies, and Practices
Residential Policies
The Energy Information Administration issued a report estimating that the total energy consumption for U.S. households in the Midwest was 2.91 quadrillion Btu in 2005. This correlates to $45.73 billion spent for energy usage costs, which meant an estimated $1,786 for every household that year (111). As energy costs continue to rise, policies that increase energy efficiency and conservation for residents are necessary to ensure a future for our posterity.
