Pedestrian/Bicyclist Policies
Designing streets and parking lots to accommodate for pedestrian and bicycle traffic helps decrease greenhouse gas emissions due to automobile exhaust and encourages healthy activity amongst citizens.
Independence
- Requires at least three bicycle parking spaces or 5 percent of the required off-street vehicle parking spaces be required for nonresidential uses
- After the first 50 bicycle parking spaces, the number of additional spaces reduces to 2 percent of the off-street vehicle parking spaces.
- Libraries and schools provide at least 10 bicycle parking spaces or 10 percent of the required vehicle parking spaces, whichever is greater (78)
