Planning & Zoning Policies & Practices
Providing the necessary background for the implementation of renewable energy sources such as solar panels is important to the planning of sustainable, energy efficient communities. By having specific codes that require consideration of solar access, the local government not only provides the necessary backdrop, but helps encourage sustainable thought within the development community.
- Requires subdivisions be laid out so that all habitable buildings are oriented with their long axis running east or west or within 20 degrees of east or west for solar access (82)
- Requires subdivision proposals include an environmental review that considers several things, including solar access (63)
