AirQ Haiku Rules
- Poetry must follow the format of a contemporary haiku in English, consisting
of exactly three lines. The first line must contain five syllables, the second
must contain seven, and the third must contain five (5-7-5). Example:
car tailpipes exhale
the sun sears Kansas City
ozone fouls my air - Haiku must address ground-level ozone air quality issues and fall into
one of the broad categories. The entrant must select the category.
- Entrants must live or work in the Kansas City region.
- Employees of the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), Blades Trozzolo Public Relations, Trozzolo Communications Group, or Trozzolo Creative Resources, Inc., are not eligible to participate.
- The contest will run from Aug. 1–Sept. 15. Only one entry per entrant per week. Those who submit multiple entries in a given week will have their entries for that week disqualified. For purposes of this contest, a week is defined as starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday and ending at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
- All entries become the property of the Mid-America Regional Council and may be used for educational and promotional purposes.
- Politically themed poetry is not being solicited. Poetry that cannot, in the judgment of MARC, be readily posted on a general public Web site will be disqualified. Similarly, any poetry which is deemed by MARC to be libelous will be disqualified.
