AirQ Haiku Rules

  1. Poetry must follow the format of a contemporary haiku in English, consisting of exactly three lines. The first line must contain five syllables, the second must contain seven, and the third must contain five (5-7-5). Example:

    car tailpipes exhale
    the sun sears Kansas City
    ozone fouls my air

  2. Haiku must address ground-level ozone air quality issues and fall into one of the broad categories. The entrant must select the category.
  3. Entrants must live or work in the Kansas City region.
  4. Employees of the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), Blades Trozzolo Public Relations, Trozzolo Communications Group, or Trozzolo Creative Resources, Inc., are not eligible to participate.
  5. The contest will run from Aug. 1–Sept. 15. Only one entry per entrant per week. Those who submit multiple entries in a given week will have their entries for that week disqualified. For purposes of this contest, a week is defined as starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday and ending at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
  6. All entries become the property of the Mid-America Regional Council and may be used for educational and promotional purposes.
  7. Politically themed poetry is not being solicited. Poetry that cannot, in the judgment of MARC, be readily posted on a general public Web site will be disqualified. Similarly, any poetry which is deemed by MARC to be libelous will be disqualified.
  8. We will not share your personal information, nor will we use it for purposes other than prize notification.
