Clean buses | healthy kids program

Clean Buses|Healthy Kids logoTo make the air our children breathe safer and cleaner, area school districts are cooperating through MARC on the Clean Buses | Healthy Kids program, which will retrofit the emissions systems of old school buses. With your help, diesel school buses across the region will be retrofitted with pollution controls at no charge to the school districts.

Although MARC has received grant funds to purchase diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) -- which will substantially reduce a bus' overall emissions -- more funding is still needed.

DOCs cost about $650 per bus. Local bus companies and school districts will donate time and labor to install the parts.

You can help

You can help make school bus emissions safer by joining the Clean Buses | Healthy Kids Partnership. Any and all contributions are welcome, and we encourage you to work with local businesses, clubs or other organizations to pool funds. A $1 contribution will result in an additional $4 of federal funding. All contributions are tax deductible.

You can also contact your school district or school transportation provider to encourage their participation -- or thank them for participating!
