Streetlights and Traffic Lights
Energy efficient streetlights and traffic lights have the potential to save significant amounts of energy. Here are some of the cost-effective strategies our partners have implemented.
Blue Springs
- Regulates the amount of spillover street lighting has onto adjacent properties?(107)
Independence
- Working with IP&L to convert to solar-powered school crossing signals
- Incorporates Operation Green Light (14)
Kansas City
- Working on an ARRA project where 100% of the traffic light bulbs will be LEDs by the end of 2010
- Has upgraded 200 signals to LED lights over the past 20 years
- Currently, all red signal heads are LEDs
Lee?s Summit
- Utilizes LED fixtures in about half of the city's street lights
- Working to convert remaining half by end of 2010
- Synchronizing many traffic signals for more efficient travel
Lenexa
- Installed 70 LED streetlights
- Is in the process of testing induction lighting
- Uses LED for all of the red and green traffic signals and street crossing signs
- Has several solar-powered flashing lights
Olathe
- Recycles all outward parts of streetlights
- Uses LED lamps in all traffic lights
Shawnee
- Calls for LED displays for traffic signals and pedestrian indicators through its Traffic Signal Design Criteria
Wyandotte County
- Replaces streetlights that have gone out with LED lamps
