What you'll learn:

This program builds on the momentum that was generated by a group of regional mayors signing the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection resolution and more than 130 area organizations joining the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s climate protection partnership. Local governments are seeking the steps they can take to measure and reduce their carbon footprints, but where should they start?

The International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) has worked with more than 350 local U.S. governments in quantifying greenhouse gas emissions, setting reduction targets, developing climate action plans, and undertaking strategies to help them achieve their goals. Workshop participants will take away an understanding of how cities around the world are tackling climate change using ICLEI’s five-milestone process. This session will also cover strategies for encouraging businesses and residents to reduce their environmental footprints.
