What you'll learn:

This hands-on training will demonstrate how parks and recreation, public works and planning staff can solve water quality, erosion, and stream stabilization problems by using native landscaping and rain gardens. The training will walk each participant through the following steps:

After an outdoor discussion, participants will plant a large native rain garden and stabilize a small portion of Marshall Creek. This training will be a practical, hands-on approach to installing native landscaping for municipal field managers and staff. Participants should wear appropriate outdoor work clothes, and bring a garden trowel or small shovel to help plant.

Instructor:

David Dods — an environmental engineer with URS Corp. in Overland Park, Kansas. Dods is an advocate of “green” stormwater management and sustainable design projects, and has designed or built rain gardens ranging from residential gardens to municipal streetscape projects.
