Community Design for Health

Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2011
Registration: 8 a.m.
Program: 8:30–10:30 a.m.

Health begins where we live, learn, work and play. Key components of a neighborhood, such as the housing, transportation, economic development and land-use development play important roles in promoting good health in a community.

This two-hour interactive workshop will examine how community design impacts the health of residents. We will discuss solutions and review policies and environmental strategies that communities can adopt to promote healthier lifestyles.

Presenter:

Gretchen H. Kunkel is president of KC Healthy Kids, a charitable foundation that develops and advances community solutions to reduce childhood obesity in Greater Kansas City. She has nearly 20 years experience addressing health care, public health and children’s health issues through advocacy, research, business development and strategic planning. She serves on a number of regional, statewide and national organizations and coalitions addressing childhood obesity, obesity, community development, food systems and food insecurity issues.
