Explore KC and its partner programs at MARC are
proud to announce the release of the SPRING 2013 REGIONAL TRAILS AND BIKEWAYS MAP, a detailed resource that exhibits bike routes, pedestrian trails, shared-use routes, safety tips and much more. Hard copies of the new map will be available at regional county and city community centers beginning in May 2013.
Since 2002, Explore KC has been a regional resource that promotes local trips by foot and bicycle. Over the years, Explore KC and MARC have collaborated with a number of local partners on a variety of community-based events. This year, the Explore KC program is continuing its work to encourage more of our citizens to bike and walk to make the most of the region’s growing network of trails, parks and other resources. The program encourages safety, as well as the health benefits of physical activity and increased exercise. Its ultimate goal is to help people improve their personal well-being through active transportation.
As the Kansas City region’s transportation needs grow, Explore KC seeks to establisha self-sustaining network of active, human-powered transportation. The program combines elements of several MARC efforts, including Complete Streets, Transportation Safety, Metro Green, AirQ and Creating Sustainable Places.

October 2013, Walk and Bike to School Day
We encourage all elementary schools in the Kansas City metropolitan area to participate in this global event. In 2012, 33 local schools participated in International Walk to School Day, and we hope to exceed that number in 2013. To participate, register your school online at walktoschoolkc.com.
