Operation Green Light receives recognition
The Missouri Valley Institute of Transportation Engineers (MOVITE) recently honored MARC’s Operation Green Light program with its 2013 Transportation Achievement Award for outstanding achievement in transportation and traffic engineering.
Earlier this year, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program highlighted OGL in its “Best Practices in Regional Multiagency Traffic Signal Operations Management” publication. The report analyzed implementation, successful and efficient funding processes, operations, and performance measures and monitoring of traffic signal operation programs across the nation.
Operation Green Light is a regional effort to coordinate traffic signal timing plans and communication between traffic signal equipment across jurisdictional boundaries. It currently operates nearly 700 traffic signals across the region. The goals of the Operation Green Light initiative include:
Managing and improving traffic flow.
Improving air quality by reducing fuel consumption and vehicle emissions.
Helping people get where they need to go faster.
