Long-Range Transportation Plan
The region's transportation goalMARC's Metro Outlook report established that metropolitan Kansas City has one basic goal: to create a region where the quality of life continually improves for everyone. Building on this premise, Transportation Outlook 2030 Update, the current long-range transportation plan (LRTP), explores and explains the region's ability to solve transportation problems and make progress. MARC is currently developing a new long-range transportation plan for metropolitan Kansas City — Transportation Outlook 2040. Learn more What the LRTP isTransportation Outlook 2030 Update directs the transportation decision-making process in ways that help achieve the regional goal outlined in Metro Outlook. To that end, the plan identifies how each element and program proposed in the plan supports a healthy, strong, regional economy; maximizes access to opportunity for all area residents; supports a quality built and natural environment; and promotes the safety and well-being of the traveling public. Transportation Outlook 2030 Update serves as a blueprint for the management of the region's transportation system through the year 2030.The plan describes the current and evolving surface transportation needs of the metropolitan area and broadly categorizes $16.6 billion in transportation investments ranging from road and transit improvements to projects that enhance bike, pedestrian and freight movement. How the LRTP was developedTransportation Outlook 2030 was developed through an extensive public involvement process that spanned 15 months and resulted in contacts with over 2,700 individuals across the region. A series of public meetings were also held through out the region for Transportation Outlook 2030 Update. The MARC Board of Directors approved Transportation Outlook 2030 Update in October 2005. Per the region’s current status as an air quality attainment area and new federal guidelines under SAFETEA-LU, MARC does not anticipate another full update of the LRTP until 2010.
