Structure and Goals of the Program
The MARC Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program works with nearly 170 facilities in Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties.
Goals of the program:
- To improve quality of life and quality of care for nursing home residents
- To educate families and facility staff on resident rights
- To increase community awareness and involvement in nursing home issues
Missouri has a State Ombudsman in Jefferson City.
Additionally, there are ten regional coordinators throughout the state who work with volunteers, residents, family members and facilities. MARC covers region 7.
The Ombudsman Program is codified in federal law by the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. Each state is required to make an Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman available to all nursing home residents, regardless of their age.
