MARC honors regional leaders

MARC presented its Regional Leadership Awards at its Tenth Annual Regional Assembly on Friday, June 1. The 2007 recipients were:

• Hannes Zacharias and Rich Noll, who co-chair the Regional Homeland Security Coordinating Committee.
• Kansas City Power & Light, for its environmental initiatives that invest in new energy resources and implement voluntary energy conservation measures, and for its many civic contributions to the region.
  
• U.S. Representative Sam Graves, who has represented Missouri’s 6th District since 2001, has demonstrated his dedication to the region through the support of programs and projects aimed at building stronger communities.
• The 2-1-1 system, coordinated by Heart of America United Way, connects people in the region with important community services and volunteer opportunities.
• Kansas City, Mo., Councilman Dr. Charles Eddy is being recognized for his distinguished service on the MARC Board of Directors for eight years.

The awards honor community leaders who have advanced a vision of a strong, healthy region, demonstrated commitment to its growth, and encouraged others to support and work towards that vision.

The keynote address on "Making a Good Region Great" was given by Ed McMahon, Urban Land Institute/Charles Fraser Senior Resident Fellow for Sustainable Development.
