Chief Kent Cantrell: Kent Cantrell serves as fire chief for the city of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and chairs the Mid-America Regional Council Emergency Rescue (MARCER) committee. He has been instrumental in regional efforts to improve pre-hospital care and implement new technologies that can help save lives.
- U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II: Now in his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Emanuel Cleaver II works tirelessly to improve the quality of life for residents not only in his district, but in the entire region. He has championed programs to create jobs and stimulate economic development and has been a strong voice for civility in Congress.
- Steven C. Klika: As chair of the Johnson County Transportation Council, Steve Klika is an energetic advocate for public transit, both in Johnson County and throughout the region. He has built relationships and guided investments that are helping to create a connected regional transit system and provide mobility options for the region’s residents.
- Mid America Assistance Coalition: For 25 years, the Mid America Assistance Coalition has coordinated services for low-income and homeless residents in the region. MAAC works with hundreds of social service agencies, using an effective case-management process and technology solutions to make a complex system as efficient and accessible as possible. The award was accepted by MAAC's Executive Director John Rich.
The awards honor community leaders who have
advanced a vision of a strong, healthy region, demonstrated commitment to
its growth, and encouraged others to support and work towards that vision.
The keynote speaker was Patrick Phillips, CEO of the Urban Land Institute.
