When MARC was awarded a Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in late 2010, it came with an added benefit. As part of a Preferred Sustainability Status Community, grant applicants from the MARC region can now earn bonus points when applying for selected HUD grants for projects that further sustainability goals and principles.
HUD has announced its intent to make the bonus points available for Preferred Sustainability Status Community applicants for 24 grants, including the HOPE VI Main Street program, which is designed to help small communities under 50,000 in population redevelop or preserve historic Main Street areas. To be eligible for the bonus points, applicants must complete HUD Form 2995, available online at http://www.hud.gov/offices/adm/hudclips/forms/files/2995.pdf, and submit both the completed form and a one-page summary of their grant proposal to MARC, the designated point of contact for the Greater Kansas City region, for certification. Certified applicants will receive two bonus points.
