U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke visited the MARC offices during his trip to Kansas City on Thursday, May 7.

During his town hall meeting before local officials he discussed tools and resources for the 2010 Census and the importance of achieving complete counts. Locke also stressed the value of local partnerships in forming Complete Count Committees in our communities to improve census counts. Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.

This was Locke's first visit outside of D.C. since his confirmation.

More photos of the event are available on MARC's Flickr account.
