MARC designated Economic Development District
October 10, 2006
This past summer, MARC was officially designated as an Economic Development District (EDD) by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA).
The designation provides the advantage of MARC having an approved Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
The CEDS is a prerequisite for grant submittals for eligible applicants, and the MARC CEDS satisfies the requirement for local agencies in the region. All cities, counties, economic and infrastructure development agencies, colleges and universities, and nonprofits are considered eligible grant applicants for EDA programs.
A majority of the Missouri Regional Planning Commissions are also designated as ED Districts and receive approximately $60,000 annually to support their activities. In the future, MARC expects to apply for annual planning dollars.
