MARC and KCPT launch new Imagine KC series

Episodes focus on creating a more vibrant, connected and green Kansas City region

November 22, 2010

Imagine KCImagine KC, a 12-part series co-produced by KCPT and MARC, had its debut on Nov. 18 on KCPT. Using video footage from throughout the region, graphics, animated scenarios, expert interviews and viewer feedback, the series focuses on helping the region envision its future. The series encourages residents to imagine a more vibrant, connected and green region.

Each episode will educate the public about a specific set of issues, policy options and how communities are meeting these challenges; help the public envision how change can be implemented in our region; and engage the community in ongoing implementation projects and decision making. Each episode will provide viewers links to additional information and ways to become involved in projects that interest them.

The first episode portrays examples of community successes in Lee’s Summit and Kansas City, Kan., as well as work underway across the region, like the new Troost MAX bus rapid transit line. Future episodes will explore natural resource conservation; healthy local food systems; efficient energy; transportation options (activity centers and corridors connected by transit); sustainable infrastructure; active lifestyles and walkable communities; housing choices; infrastructure and place making.

In April 2009, MARC and KCPT partnered on the initial broadcast of Imagine KC, reaching thousands of area residents who tuned in and participated in a process to articulate what should go into a plan for our region’s future. The program began the process of engaging and educating residents about the choices and options for becoming a more vibrant, connected and green place to live.

“Our goal with this series is to help envision our future, to give us a sense of confidence that we can indeed articulate a coherent plan and strategy for our region, to educate people on the choices and options for how to get there and actively engage them in the process of doing that,” commented MARC’s Executive Director David Warm. “…our plan is to help create an opportunity for people to get more information, or find out how they can get involved at the local level or at the regional level in making this plan a reality. This is not just about talk; it’s about creating an avenue for informed engagement and creating a better future for the region.”

Imagine KC is funded by: Hall Family Foundation, Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Garney Family Foundation Fund, ULI Kansas City, BNIM Architects and the Kansas City Chapter of the AIA.
