MARC sponsored a briefing Tuesday for Kansas and Missouri lawmakers on the metropolitan area’s state of preparedness one year after Hurricane Katrina. The briefing was held at the Overland Park Command and Control Center.
Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver and Kansas Congressman Dennis Moore heard from area law enforcement and health officials that the cooperation and coordination between the various agencies has been excellent and that Greater Kansas City is better prepared than most metropolitan areas for a major disaster.
Also attending the briefing were representatives from the offices of Missouri Senator Jim Talent, Kansas Senator Pat Roberts and Missouri Congressman Sam Graves.
