U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill visits with children from Operation Breakthrough

On Nov. 28, Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, visited Operation Breakthrough at 3039 Troost, Kansas City, Mo., to tour the facility and to discuss the recent veto of a $9 billion dollar increase in funding for services to needy families and distressed neighborhoods. The funding, which included additional monies for Head Start, was included in a budget proposal sent to President Bush.

In touring the expanded Operation Breakthrough facility, the Senator heard many stories from center staff and founder Sr. Berta Sailor about needs in the community ranging from early learning to health care to after-school programs for teens.

Operation Breakthrough is a Head Start program operated by The Family Conservancy and part of Mid-America Head Start administered at MARC.
