On Wednesday, May 26, MARC hosted a roundtable discussion led by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Secretary Janet Napolitano, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

At the roundtable, Nixon and Napolitano talked with 12 local and state officials about ongoing national, regional and local efforts to enhance coordination, guard against threats of terrorism and protect public safety. Approximately 50 local leaders were invited to listen in on the discussion, which was followed by an equipment display and press conference.

The equipment on display, all purchased with regional homeland security grant funds, included an AreaRAE rapid deployment kit used by hazardous materials response teams to detect and identify harmful gases; several remote-control robots used by tactical teams to respond to bomb threats; and a listening device and telescoping search camera used by heavy rescue teams.
