13th annual Quality Celebration honors early learning successes

April 26, 2010

Nearly 200 people gathered at Kauffman Conference Center on April 22, for the 13th annual Quality Celebration to recognize the successes of early learning professionals and quality early learning programs in the Kansas City region.

At the celebration, 30 early learning professionals who have earned associate's, bachelor's or master's degrees in the field of early education with assistance from MARC's Metropolitan Council on Early Learning, and 11 family child care providers who have earned accreditation, or reaccreditation, from the National Association of Family Child Care were recognized. Also, 21 regional early learning centers were honored for achieving state or national reaccreditation.

Jerry Kitzi, director of the Francis Institute, reprised his role as master of ceremonies for the 2010 Quality Celebration, and keynote speaker Nefertiti Bruce, M.Ed., early childhood specialist at the Devereux Foundation in Philadelphia, Pa., delivered an energetic and emotional keynote address. Bruce's inspirational message of “Building Your Bounce,” referenced her book of the same name, which puts a new spin on positive thinking and helping others realize their strengths and potential.

The Quality Celebration was sponsored by The Family Conservancy, the Francis Institute, Hallmark Cards, Inc., the Mid-America Regional Council's Metropolitan Council on Early Learning, the Mid-America Association for the Education of Young Children, Partners in Quality, Project Eagle, United Way of Greater Kansas City and Tri-County Smart Start–United Way of Wyandotte County.
