Volunteers teach area children how to use 9-1-1 in emergency situations

December 30, 2009

Red E. Fox with kidsSince the beginning of the 2009–10 school year more than 4,000 children from 35 different schools in the region have participated in the Red E. Fox program.

The Red E. Fox program targets children ages 4–7 and teaches simple but important lessons about how to get help in emergency situations. The program consists of a presentation by a 9-1-1 dispatcher, an AT&T Pioneer volunteer or a member of the MARC staff. Students watch a video about proper 9-1-1 use, work through instructional activity sheets and practice making 9-1-1 calls on a simulator.

In emergency situations seconds count, and it is the hope of MARC’s public safety program that the Red E. Fox program will help children feel confident in how to use 9-1-1. To request a presentation, contact Gina Seibel at 816/701-8394 or gseibel@marc.org.
