Receive a free soil testing kit for completing a short online survey
September 11, 2006
MARC's Water Quality Program is giving away free soil testing kits ($15 value) to citizens who complete a short online survey about soil care and fertilization habits.
Soil testing is the process of analyzing the nutrients present in a soil sample to determine the type and amount of fertilizer needed. Periodic soil testing provides homeowners with the vital information needed to maintain a healthy lawn or garden. Soil testing also saves money by avoiding over application of costly fertilizer and reduces polluted runoff.
The soil testing kits come with easy to read directions and allow the user to send their samples postage paid to the soil testing company, EarthCo, Inc. Test results will be mailed to the participant and they can also be viewed online.
Now is the perfect time to test your soil. While you can soil test anytime of year, it’s preferable to test during late summer or in fall before application of fall fertilizer. Avoiding peak times in spring will help ensure you receive results in a timely manner.
The results from the online survey will help MARC staff better determine needs of the community and how to best reach and educate the public about environmental issues and events.
