What do citizens think about transit?

Public TransitCitizen engagement series to find out what residents want in regional transit

One KC Voice, the region’s citizen engagement initiative housed at MARC, will host 25 public engagement sessions this fall to solicit input on public transit.

With support from a $139,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration, community discussions will be held in seven counties across the region. The results will be used to inform an update of the Smart Moves Regional Transit Plan.

While the discussions will cover a broad range of transit options, the timing is particularly relevant because of the light rail ballot measure that was approved in Kansas City, Mo., last November and is likely to come before voters again soon.

“With this series of engagements, public input will have a significant impact on the decisions made by local leadership, both for short-term investments as well as the long term,” said Liana Riesinger, One KC Voice coordinator. “One KC Voice is about making the voices of all Greater Kansas Citians heard in decision-making processes.”

One KC Voice schedules civic engagements through a network of local community and citizens organizations. To join the network or learn more about hosting a meeting, contact Liana Riesinger.
