Application submitted for FY 2007 UASI funds

An application for about $13.5 million in FY 2007 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) funds was submitted to the state of Missouri on March 26. The Regional Homeland Security Coordinating Committee's Resource Subcommittee developed the application with input from other RHSCC subcommittees.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's UASI program provides financial assistance to address the planning, equipment, training and exercise needs of large urban areas, and to assist in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, respond to and recover from threats or acts of terrorism. The region received approximately $40 million in UASI funding for Fiscal Years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Missouri officials will include the Kansas City region's FY 2007 funding requests, along with an application from the St. Louis urban area, in the state's application to DHS. Grant awards are expected in June.

Once the awards are announced the Resource Subcommittee and co-chairs will reconvene to determine priorities.
