Thousands of students, educators, families and neighbors throughout Greater Kansas City celebrated International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Each year MARC joins with other local organizations and communities to promote the benefits of walking or biking to school, which include healthy lifestyles, strong communities, financial savings and a cleaner environment.
Frank Rushton Elementary in the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City, Kan., made its Walk to School event a celebration of active living and safe neighborhoods. Students, parents, teachers, local law enforcement, elected officials and community members enjoyed a healthy breakfast and walked to school together. Wyandotte County Commissioner Ann Brandau-Murguia read a proclamation from Unified Government Mayor/CEO Joe Reardon supporting Walk to School Day and the healthy lifestyle habits the yearly event encourages.
