Walkable Communities Workshop Report
In 2004, the National Center for Bicycling and Walking (NCBW) issued a call for proposals to host a series of Walkable Community Workshops. MARC was one of thirteen MPOs selected for the 2004-2005 program. This program was financed through MARC transportation planning funds and local municipalities contributions.
The workshop program included:
- Two NCBW instructors and all training materials for a week-long program with eight workshops.
- An introductory meeting and a concluding de-briefing session with MPO staff and local coordinators.
- Two-day training session on the content and logistics of delivering Walkable Community Workshops for the designated MPO project coordinator.
- NCBW assistance to MPO staff after the workshop with identifying resources and tools for implementing local action plans.
During the week of April 11-15, 2005 the NCBW, in partnership with MARC, sponsored a series of eight Walkable Communities Workshops in the Kansas City region. Seven cities from the greater Kansas City metropolitan area participating in the program.
