Development Guidelines

  • The Creating Quality Places website provides a searchable, online database of tools, including zoning ordinances, for use in implementing alternative design principles developed as part of MARC's Creating Quality Places initiative.
  • Creating Walkable Communities is a resource guide for local governments and concerned citizens on how to make communities more walkable and pedestrian-friendly. The report includes guidelines, suggestions and techniques. It is in PDF format, requiring Acrobat Reader.
  • The Successful Small Cities Initiative at the Mid-America Regional Council is intended to provide administrative, planning and informational resources to smaller local governments as they respond to growth and development pressures.
  • The Transit-Supportive Development report raises understanding of the relationship between land use development (density and design) and community livability and mobility.

Development Fees and Regulations
