LEPC Public Information and Education
The LEPC maintains a database of information about area companies that house substantial quantities of hazardous chemicals. These companies update their information annually. The LEPC provides an annual summary of the data to each fire department and emergency management office in the eight-county area — Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties in Missouri, and Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.
Brochures and a training program have been prepared to inform area retail businesses about safe handling and storage procedures for hazardous chemicals.
A pocket guide to help first responders identify hazardous chemicals and take appropriate response actions is available to every law enforcement officer in the region.
The LEPC also responds to requests for information from the public.
