2009 School Day at the K
MEMC's Citizen Readiness subcommittee sponsored FOX 4's School Day at the K, the world's largest outdoor weather show. More than 16,000 children from around the region attended the show prior to the Kansas City Royals baseball game on May 7, 2009.
Several MEMC member agencies and affiliates set up equipment and displays in the stadium parking lot. The exhibit included:
- Three Kansas City, Mo., Fire Department vehicles
- A rescue pumper from the Riverside Fire Department
- An American Red Cross canteen
- Missouri Department of Natural Resources rescue apparatus
- Blue Valley Public Safety's siren truck
- Missouri Emergency Response Commission's "Wally Wise" mascot
- A tabletop display from the Poison Control Center
- MEMC brochures
MEMC's School Day at the K sponsorship also included video segments on FOX 4's Extreme Weather DVD and inclusion of copies of the Emergency Preparedness Guidebook in 45,000 DVD cases. The DVDs were distributed to everyone who attended the School Day at the K event, to area schools and libraries, and to MEMC member agencies.
