Handling Liquid Petroleum Gas Emergencies

SPONSORED BY THE MID-AMERICA LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE THROUGH HAZARDOUS MATERIALS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS (HMEP) GRANT FUNDS

Handling Liquid Propane GasCourse Description:

Liquid petroleum (LP) gas is a potential hazard present in almost every community. A complete understanding of LP gas and its hazards is necessary in order to safely and efficiently handle an incident.

This class will present an overview of LP gas properties and characteristics and will provide the opportunity for students to participate in an actual fire attack on an LP tank fire. Participants will also learn about common storage containers in residential and commercial use and the components of different types of transport vehicles.

Special Notes:

  • Participants will need to bring their own SCBA and full bunker gear for the practical portion of class.
  • Participants with facial hair will not be allowed to participate in the practical evolution; however, such participants will receive an eight-hour certificate for attending the lecture portion of the course.
