SWMD Special Recognition Awards

The MARC Solid Waste Management District recognizes outstanding recycling and waste reduction efforts by individuals and organizations in the metropolitan region. Nominations are made in the fall and awards are presented at the district annual meeting in December. Nominations for the 2005 Special Recognition Awards are now closed. Award categories are as follows:

Elected Official: To recognize an elected official who has shown dedication to the development and advancement of waste reduction and recycling through individual achievement and commitment.

Public Employee: To recognize a public employee who has shown dedication to the development and advancement of waste reduction and recycling through individual achievement and commitment.

Individual Supporter: To recognize an individual who has made exceptional contributions and commitment to the district’s waste reduction and recycling efforts.

Environmental Educator: To recognize an individual or group for commitment to educating others about the need for, and benefit of waste reduction and recycling. Considerations include length of service, innovative or unique program and audience impact.

Outstanding Program: To recognize an innovative or outstanding waste reduction or recycling program. Considerations include types and quantities of material collected and commitment to program growth.

Green Event: To recognize a special event that promotes sustainable practices.

Waste Industry: To recognize outstanding waste reduction and recycling efforts for a business in the waste industry.
