National League of Cities Youth Participation Page
The NLC’s Institute for Youth, Education, and Family has put together a helpful guide to promoting youth participation for local governments.
Leadership training, placement of youth on nonprofit organization boards, community service opportunities, and a youth senate are just a few of the programs described here. The “Youth on Board” section provides users with access to resources on youth engagement and the law, maintaining good youth/adult working relationships, and other useful information.
California Center for Civic Participation -- Youth Voices
A great Web site for any local government, whether you want to start a youth program from scratch or build on existing efforts. It includes a comprehensive "how-to" handbook that shows local government officials a step-by-step process of creating a youth participation program. The handbook helps officials decide which model of youth engagement to follow, offers practical ideas for recruiting youth, displays training modules for youth leaders, and includes much more information. The library section of the webpage also includes classroom activities, proposed program budgets, and useful templates for medical releases, nomination forms, recruitment flyers and other administrative needs.
