Geospatial Homeland Security Planning -- Project History

In February 2005, the Regional Homeland Security Coordinating Committee authorized the use of $125,000 from FY2003 UASI grant to be used in the preparation of the Strategic Plan for Regional Geospatial Homeland Security and execution of the major geospatial directives that were to be identified in the plan.

MARC staff worked with the Homeland Security Geospatial Workgroup to issue a request for proposals, the workgroup reviewed the responses and selected PBS&J to develop the strategic plan in May 2005.

In June 2005, MARC and the consultant team provided an introduction of how the strategic plan will be developed. This was an opportunity for attendees to share information about GIS and other technology currently used in their public safety environments and communicate needs they may have with respect to data, software and hardware.

This was followed by a series of focused interview sessions, organized by geography and discipline. Stakeholders were provided an opportunity to describe in detail what data or software they currently use, as well as where they see opportunity to expand their GIS technology capabilities.
