Meet MARC’s GIS Staff

MARC’s GIS staff provide mapping and data analysis to all MARC departments, while also supporting focused roles within particular programs.

The MARC GIS staff members include:

Phil Castro, GIS Specialist
Phil has over 40 years of experience mapping for MARC and its predecessor METROPLAN. He has an AA degree in Drafting Technology from KCKCJC. Phil’s responsibilities include managing MARC’s archive of historical aerial photography, creating maps for the public, and developing and editing key GIS layers used at MARC.

Jake Goldman, GIS Specialist
Jake has a Masters of Geography from the University of Kansas, with a focus in cartography. Prior to working at MARC, Jake worked as a cartography technician at Garmin. Jake’s primary responsibility is maintenance of the Missouri-side data used within MARC’s regional 9-1-1 program.

Steve Marsh, GIS Manager
Steve has a Master’s of Geography from the University of Missouri, with a focus in GIS. He has been in the Geographic Information Systems field for 18 years. Steve was the GIS manager and IT director for Jackson County before coming to MARC. But even before then, he was at the forefront of urging MARC to take a bigger role in GIS to promote data sharing, create efficiencies in data capture and help transfer GIS knowledge from the more advanced programs to the ones just starting out.
Steve’s primary responsibilities include overall management of MARC’s GIS program, and coordination of the KC Metro GIS Committee and its associated projects.

Andrea Repinsky, GIS Planner
Andrea graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master’s of Urban Planning. Andrea integrates environmental conservation, land use planning and GIS for many programs at MARC, particularly with land use forecasting to support MARC’s Technical Forecast Committee. She also assists MARC staff with data visualization, analysis and north-arrow hats.

Destiny Richardson, GIS Specialist
Destiny has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography with GIS and Cartography concentration from the University of Indiana. Prior to working for MARC, Destiny worked in the Geography branch of the US Census Bureau. Destiny’s primary responsibility is maintenance of the Kansas-side data used within MARC’s regional 9-1-1 program.
