About LEPC/TERC

Local Emergency Planning Committee - Region VII

Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) bring private industry together with public emergency response agencies. The purpose of the LEPC is to help reduce the community's risks from accidents involving hazardous chemicals.

LEPCs usually include representatives from fire departments and districts, law enforcement agencies, emergency medical services agencies, private industry, city and county emergency management officials, the media and state and federal agencies.

Region VII includes the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.

Tribal Emergency Response Commission

TERC is a group of officials appointed by Native American governing bodies to implement the provisions of Title III of SARA, which establishes requirements for federal, state and local governments, indian tribes, and industry regarding emergency planning and reporting on hazardous and toxic chemicals.

TERC helps increase the public's knowledge and access to information on chemicals at individual facilities, their uses, and releases into the environment. States and communities, working with facilities, can use the information to improve chemical safety and protect public health and the environment.
