PHMSA Deputy Administrator
Timothy P. Butters is the Deputy Administrator of the US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). PHMSA's mission is to protect people and the environment from the risks inherent in transportation of hazardous materials - by pipeline and other modes of transportation. PHMSA’s responsibilities include the development and enforcement of regulations for the safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of the nation's 2.3 million miles of the gas and liquid pipeline transportation system and the nearly 1 million daily shipments of hazardous materials by rail, highway, marine, and air.

AWARDS
The awards committee is accepting nominations for LEPCs/TERCs and industries that are actively involved in their community risk reduction, planning and prevention activities. Nominations deadline is June 7, 2013.
The following awards will be presented:
- One LEPC award in each state for communities with populations less than 20,000.
- One LEPC award in each state for communities with populations between 20,000 and 80,000.
- One LEPC award in each state for communities with populations of 80,000 or more.
- One TERC award.
- One award for a large industry from each state that is a major contributor to its LEPC/TERC.
- One award for a small industry from each state that is a major contributor to its LEPC/TERC.
- One award for an LEPC/TERC from each state with the website that gets HAZMAT information out to the community in the most comprehensive manner.
- One regional social networking award for the LEPC/TERC that makes the most effective use of social networking in getting critical information to its public.
