Take the Healthy Family Challenge!
A program to encourage healthier eating and more activity
for children and families.
Obesity rates among preschool children continue to be a cause for concern across the country. Parents and primary caregivers are powerful role models who can greatly influence eating habits and physical activity in children.
In 2009, a coalition of agencies in the Greater Kansas City area developed the healthy family challenge as part of an effort to improve health and wellness of Head Start families.
The information and materials provided here can help other organizations or individual families implement their own healthy family challenges.
Healthy Family Challenge goals:
Help children and families improve FIVE important health habits:
- Eat MORE fruits and vegetables.
- Eat MORE low-fat dairy foods, such as cheese, yogurt and milk.
- Drink LESS soda and other sweetened drinks, such as Kool-Aid, Sunny D and fruit juice drinks.
- Eat LESS fast food.
- Be MORE active.
