Specialty Care Task Force

The second priority area is the continuing need to enhance access to specialty care.

The recommended strategy is to assess the need for and availability of specialty care for medically underserved patients and then develop various strategies to meet the identified gaps in service. It is recommended that a new SNC committee be formed around this priority.

Charge:

• Identify specialty care needs through a survey and gap analysis
• Determine strategies to promote improved integrated patient care in the bi-state area by enhancing access to specialty care. Potential strategies might include:
• Hiring and shared use of specialists
• Increased use of specialty residents from local med schools
• Work with access programs, hospitals and other stakeholders to expand relationships with specialty providers
