2012 MARCER paramedic scholarships availableThe Mid-America Regional Council Emergency Rescue committee (MARCER) is now accepting applications for spring 2012 paramedic scholarships. Each year, MARCER awards up to seven scholarships of up to $1,000 each to emergency medical technicians who are enrolled in eligible paramedic training programs in the MARC region. The scholarship program was developed to encourage students who have the desire and determination to further their education and achieve certification as paramedics, helping to ensure a pool of trained personnel for emergency medical service agencies in the region. More» Dept. of Energy awards team $450,000 to eliminate red tape and barriers to solar powerOn Dec. 1, the Dept. of Energy announced $12 million in funding for awardees of the Rooftop Solar Challenge. The challenge supports 22 regional teams to spur solar power deployment by cutting red tape — streamlining and standardizing permitting, zoning, metering, and connection processes — and improving finance options to reduce barriers and lower costs for residential and small commercial rooftop solar systems. MARC is the lead agency for a regional consortium selected to receive a $450,000 grant. The consortium includes the cities of Kansas City, Mo. and Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Clay County, Mo.; Johnson County, Kan.; the city of Olathe, Kan.; KCP&L and the Metropolitan Energy Center (MEC).
