E-Procurement
For several years cities and counties in the Kansas City area have been using e-procurement systems. The use of such systems can:
- Improve efficiency of the procurement process and reduce administrative costs
- Provide a history for every procurement transaction and increase accountability
- Increase the number of bidders on each procurement and thus reduce bids
- Increase the pool of bidders and level the procurement playing field for all bidders
PublicBuy.net by Syscom and DemandStar by Onvia are examples of companies that can provide local governments with excellent e-procurement systems.
Agency use:MARC has a regional master agreement with DemandStar by Onvia (PDF): E-mail a DemandStar representative if you have questions at agencyservices@onvia.com These local governments are using DemandStar. View their current bids:

Subscribing vendors specify the type of bids they want to receive, and receive notification by email or fax when a participating agency has a matching bid opportunity. In addition to viewing bids/RFPs online, suppliers are also able to view bid tabulations of contracts previously awarded by other agencies, allowing them to analyze past award information for use when preparing bids. DemandStar offers three subscription levels:
