The Problem
FRAGMENTED AND UNDERSIZED TRANSIT SYSTEM

How does a region...

with more miles of freeway per person than any other city in the nation transform a fragmented and undersized transit system into one that seamlessly connects people with the places they need to go when they need to get there?

Smart Moves...

is a comprehensive transit improvement plan that connects services throughout seven counties. Smart Moves offers high-technology buses, new freeway express services, expanded local services and more specialized transportation for the elderly and disabled. It proposes to double the transit services available in the region.

The Smart Moves planning team...

includes the region’s three existing transit agencies, has conducted more than 70 public meetings to gather public input on how best to design a regional transit system. The resulting plan adapts services to the different users and needs in each of the region’s counties.

A comprehensive transit system...

will ease growing congestion, protect the environment and provide greater access to jobs. Smart Moves means independence, choice and mobility for more people more of the time.
